Remember this video from the magical 90’s?
This one was one of my absolute favourites. I must have seen this video countless no. of times. I can’t place my finger on what exactly I liked about this video, but there was something just so appealing about this video to me that it gave me butterflies everytime I saw it. May be it’s the way Jimmy Shergill dances, like someone who is heads over heels in love with someone, or like someone who is blown away by someone’s good looks, or like someone who is just glad to be young, good looking, single and available for that gorgeous woman. I don’t know what it is really. But it’s oh-so-sexy. May be it’s the way he dances… like someone who has found the key to happiness; or how happy one feels when something one was looking for ages finally presents itself. Or maybe it’s the captivating music, the awesome lyrics, that coming-of-age-feel to the video or just that smug, sexy, playful look in JOJO’s eyes. But I still love this song.
Pop Music culture in India was blooming in the 90s. What peppy songs and what touching videos, videos that made your heart melt; videos that gave you butterflies, videos that made you feel like you want to fall in love. What an era that was. They don’t make songs or videos like that any more. Such chic songs and hip videos, such good looking actors, such melodious voices of Sonu Nigam, Alisha, Shaan, KK, Suneeta Rao, Asha Bhosle, Falguni Pathak and many more.
My generation has grown up on those videos. I remember how we used to keep watching these videos over and over again in summer holidays. We used to fervently switch channels so as not to miss any video anywhere. What happened to those good old days?
“Made in India” took India by storm. Uffff… those drop-dead gorgeous Greek-God looks of Milind Soman and that uppish and proud but in a good kinda way expression on Alisha’s face, I-know-what-I-deserve-look in her eyes, her graceful portrayal of a princess and kind-of patriotic lyrics made us all swoon. This song was on the top of the charts for a very, very long time.
And this Chui-mui si Tum lagti ho song…The gift shops across India made record profits selling those little teddies after this song. This is not amongst my personsal favourites though
Tantalising song Pari hoon Main, by Suneeta Rao, has got to be the most popular dandiya song. Though credit goes to Falguni Pathak probably for popularizing at her dandiya-garba raas .
And how can we forget the sweet, mellifluous and perhaps one of the best voices of Sonu Nigam and his blockbuster album “Deewana”. This is my absolute favourite.
And this one? One of the most romantic songs, I still have this on my playlist
Tanha Dil by Shaan, what a wonderful song and what touching video! Look at his hair! *jawdrop*
This cute video by Falguni had all the teenage girls going weak in their knees for that gorgeous male model. It became such a hit that everyone was seen imitating these dance steps.
Oh and how can I forget this one? Gur Nalon Ishq Mitha… All the girls went crazy over Jas Arora at once and all the boys oohed-aahed over Malaika Arora.
Sukhwinder Singh’s powerful, high pitched, soul-stirring voice in this wonderful song Nasha hi Nasha hai made your heart ache for those two lovers who couldn’t live together forever
And out-of-the-world music and tabla beats in Nusrat Fateh Ali Khan’s Afreen Afreen Song, combined with good looks of Lisa Ray.
Remember Stereo Nation’s “Oh Carol”. It was very Gen-Y kinda song for 90s.
Pyar ho Gaya (Long before Shiney’s rape case)
I often muse what happened to that era? Why don’t we have such songs any more? Why do we have to put up with Halkat Jawaani and Jalebi Bai?
I hope I have been able to take you back in time…to the wonderful 90s…and you have been able to reminisce those buried memories from that beautiful phase of life that 90’s was.

Hi I have been looking for a song from last ten years and i only know the lyrics and the tune in my head , could someone please tell me if they know this song, it was in 90’s from a non- film album and the lyrics were:

those were really the days… when audio cassettes and CD’s were the norm… making lists of the songs, sometimes buying the albums, sometimes going to the local audio shop with the lists… ‘bhaiyya yeh record kar dena’ …. the magic of music videos…
I guess the ones who have had their teens during that time remember it fondly…..

and now, music is all about downloads… no feel of the real thing… no touch, no fond memories…. its becoming so impersonal….

when i watch video of tanha dil i remember my childhood friends in those glorious 90’s. one of the best song of shaan .then also falguni.aryans.baba sehgal.sonu nigam songs are great .how can you not include ho gayi hain mohabbat (aslam &shibani kashyap) it is also a very good song. i miss those many 90’s songs they are the best now at present all songs are crap with ridiculous lyrics.

I need all your help to recollect the name of the song whose music video was a very touchy one: A girl returns to her village after her education in a foreign land, the village is in the hills, she gets down from the bus and starts walking towards her house, which was one of the most lavish bungalow, and while walking she remembers her childhood…. As she gets to the house she sees no one living there, completely abandoned, inside all furniture covered and wrapped in white cloth… She then goes out of the house and sees a man who was her childhood boyfriend, who is now married and all… Does anyone remember this video?

I am not able to recall a song, where One guy asks for dance to the girl sitting beside the one interested in him. Than she starts dancing with another guy. it was a very fast dance song, Hindi. Must have been inspired on song from Teesri Manzil movie ‘Aaja Aaja Main hoon pyar tera’. I may be wrong but one of those guys, which the main lead girl picks later on to dance along was Terence Lewis. Maybe but am not sure. Both guys were wearing sleek suits with thin tie and both girls were in frocks. In this song video I had first time seen that while dancing movement of dancers stops and camera starts revolving around that still shot only. It was happening quiet often in that song. It was shot in a big round hall of a big Hotel/Monument.

Artists like biddu, alisha, shaan, sagrika, kk, jojo, indeevar, nazia hassan ruled it. Miss that time. 😦

Awesome list of songs from the good ol 90’s. the indian pop music scene was going great that time. there were amazing remix albums as well. prime example being: Instant Karma. I especially love the song Dil kya kare by shaan. IMHO its better than the original from Julie sung by kishore kumar (sorry kishore da).
There was another album which had the old movie songs re-created. It has songs like similar to the songs in the movie dil vil pyar vyar. does any one remembers the name of that album? i had a cassette of that album but not able to recollect the songs/the album name

I totally agree! Those were the pioneering eras for Indian pop music. Nothing like that era. As an teenager you would listen to these songs, when you had crush on someone, as songs could relate to your feelings. It was a time were cross culture marriages where big taboo and have love affair were considered to be a sin. It was really a different feeling then.
Now no one makes a pop music or a video as its no more profitable, gr8 thanks to piracy, which killed pop music in India and singer had no other choice but to take shelter in Indian film industries. Now creative culture has lost and only thing left is race of making money and surviving. now you don’t enjoy music and also find them meaningless, coz its only made to sell, there is no feeling and emotion put into music or even movies we see now a days.
Today. movies are called product and its been marketed extensively. I think these are the reasons we don’t see any good music made these day. I would give anything to re-live those days again one more time.

Great initiative Zinal, penning down (or in this case typing out) all your 90s memories. I will admit just going through the comments was quite a nostalgic journey.
By the way anyone recall this short lived Oxygen channel which was practically a call-in jukebox for us folks in the 90s. I think that is where I was introduced to the whole Indian pop scene for the 1st time.
Now, getting to the point, I too am looking for this track. Funnily enough, I couldn’t care any less of it back when it kept repeating on the Oxygen channel I mentioned. But for some reason after all these years I simply cannot resist the urge to satisfy my curiosity as to what this song was. I vaguely recall it was shot in a darkish room or just darkish setting… Rather plaintive tone to the song and I seem to recall a frequent spinning of a picture of a reddish lotus in front of a darkish background again. Just a guy and girl throughout the song I think. Can’t be sure but I think it was only the girl that sang. Can anyone help me out with this one?

hey guys, I stumbled upon this page while searching for an old song. The video is about a guy who is handicapped or has some sort of mental illness. He doesn’t walk or talk and then a female doctor comes to help him get better. They end up falling in love and getting married. I remember one line from the song which basically says that ‘this is how love happens.’
I’m not Indian but my mom is obsessed with the Indian culture and she used to watch ETC song channel a lot while I was growing up. This song is one which was continuously played on that channel. That was about 12 or so years ago so the song is quite old.

I am looking for a song since long time. All I remember is a fort. The guy wears a turban (like arabic prince kind). The guy and girl both are running from some people. When they are resting, both sleep on ground; the girl falls asleep on guy’s hand (using it as a pillow) on ground. A scorpion comes on that hand of guy and bites his hand but he does not move his hand so that the girl’s sleep does not get disturbed.

Mmmmmm !!!! Why don’t we have a get together for all with same interest! we can book a resort middle of Mumbai and Pune .
Reason for the Meetup:
1) Push up urself in that 90’s era again when we were in 15ns to 25. Go back to your age again for a while 🙂 along with a big lcd screens having indi pop videos are going aside. I am sure, watching videos together, discussions, experience sharing etc is much better than watching videos on you tube for indi pop n going back to that era alone
2) We can share each others collection.
3) As we are going to meet each other for the 1st time with same interest, it can be a different experience!
We all will contribute the charges for resorts.
Note: I do not have any money making intention to arrange this kind of get together. If anyone interested to make arrangements please take a lead! no worries.
